Obligatory New Year’s Post

So… here we are in 2010… the year where we start referring to every year the rest of this century as “twenty – something” instead of “two thousand and something”.  This year promises to be filled with many new SharePoint challenges and opportunities. So, I thought I’d take a minute to reflect on this past year and what’s coming for me this year.

A Look Back at 2009

2009 was a truly awesome year for me as a year of growth in SharePoint and I learned that I have SO much more to learn. One of the great things about SharePoint is that there will always be something else for me to learn and hopefully someone for me to learn from.  2009 was my first full year being involved and contributing to the SharePoint community, and it was worth every minute.

I started speaking at SharePoint events last year and found that I completely enjoy it. I was lucky enough to speak at SharePoint Saturday Tulsa, St. Louis MossCamp, Ozarks DNUG, SharePoint Saturday Dallas, Tulsa TechFest, Tyson Development Conference, SharePoint Saturday DC, and SharePoint Saturday Kansas City. Every time I spoke I learned something new and met some truly incredible people. If you ever want to accelerate your SharePoint knowledge I definitely suggest throwing your hat in the speaker arena.

I organized SharePoint Saturday Ozarks in July in Harrison, AR. It was a great success and we had an awesome time. Thanks again to everyone who spoke and attended. You guys rock: Organizing a SharePoint Event: What You Need To Know

I attended my first major Microsoft conference in Vegas, The SharePoint Conference. It was overwhelming and humbling. I truly am an idiot when it comes to SharePoint.

I also had quite a few blog posts that generated a lot of traffic/interest. Some have been syndicated on EndUserSharePoint.com. Some of the more popular posts:

Lastly, I met a lot of awesome SharePoint people that I am honored to call colleagues as well as friends. There are way too many to name and I’d hate to forget someone. You know who you are. Thanks for being there for me and I look forward to hanging out again soon.

A look Ahead at 2010

So, what’s in store for 2010?  The first half of the year looks to be keeping me busy.

So far I’ll be speaking at the upcoming SharePoint Technology Conference in San Francisco on February 10-12.  This will be my first major conference to speak at so, I’m very excited and HOPE to do a great job. If you are coming to see me there I’m afraid I can’t offer you a money back guarantee this time.

I also have plans to speak at the upcoming SharePoint Saturday Boston, they have not officially announced me as a speaker, but I have dirt on one of the organizers so I am hopeful.

I submitted a few sessions to speak at the upcoming Tech-Ed in New Orleans on June 7-10, but they are looking for mostly 300 and 400 level sessions.  I’m not quite there yet, so don’t expect me to speak unless someone makes a mistake and accepts my sessions. 🙂

SharePoint Saturday Ozarks 2010 is tentatively scheduled for June 12th. I’m currently waiting for a final okay on the venue to get the ball fully rolling. We had a great time last year and this year promises to be even better. Sponsors are lining up and we are also planning a float trip down the Buffalo River the day after the event. Stay tuned for our call to speakers and registration! Hope to see you there!

I plan on attending the SharePoint Conference 2010 as well, but have no idea where or when it is.  I also have to beg my bosses (family and work) to allow me to go.

I also plan to attend and speak at various conferences throughout the year depending on how my schedule works out.  So, keep an eye out for opportunities to heckle me.

From a SharePoint technology perspective I hope to be able to do a lot more in depth SharePoint development this year in both 2007 and 2010. I have not had a chance to crack open 2010 yet (and I feel like I’m the only one), but that is at the top of my to do-list. Anyone have some spare RAM I can borrow? 🙂

Thanks again to all of you who read my blog and support me. If there is anything specific you’d like to see from me in the coming year please let me know.

Have an awesome and blessed 2010!
